My partner is totally blind & we have 4 children, the youngest being 3 months, she does everything from nappies to cleaning, & as I work full time we are not entitled to help from the social services. The help is available to this couple but they only accept 2 hours a week. The other woman should pay for home help if she is not entitled to help, that boy should not be ironing & making meals.
Fair play to you, you have responsibilties & have accepted them, I am sure it is a huge struggle at times...but why wont this family take on more help if it has been offered to them and allow their children to have some freedom. I was shocked when they mentioned the little girl that put the black bag over her head because she'd had enough - isn't that enough to sound alarm bells to the parents involved.
THEY ARE SMOKING! sorry, and i know its free choice and everything but they are always choosing the wrong one, and they are going to try for another child, even though she has just had a miscarrage... i don't understand what is going on in there heads, ther eldest child is totally unemotional because of her up bringing- and they said that they wanted a big family so that their children can look after them when they are older- what kind of life is that?!?
It is very sad.
I think they are being selfish. Not just because they are blind and won't accept the help. But they also smoke all over the children.
It seems they want the kids as a novelty and the older they get, then they can look after the next baby!
In my opinion, they seem a little bit erm.. how do i say... thick?
But, bless the kids, they love their mum and dad and would probably be devestated if the social services wanted to take them into care.

I am completely shocked and really angry about this! Those poor kids are being robbed of their childhood by parents who are totally absorbed in their own self pity. What amazes me with the blind couple is they truly believe they are good parents. Not once so far have I seen a smile on any of those kids faces, and it made me want to cry. I am sorry that the parents are disabled, but that does not make it acceptable that children should have to live like that. To be honest, I dont think the disability factor makes a difference, I get the impression that this couple would still be living the same selfish life if they were not disabled. ANY parents who treat their children like this do not deserve to be parents, and I really do think that in this instance the children would be better off being adopted/fostered. Social services should get in there fast and force the parents to accept help.
OMG what positive steps should be taken to improve the lot of these girls. I am sure that I would have cracked up long ago under similar circumstances. I am wondering what level of assistance would be appropriate to offer/ insist on, should the basic needs of the children ( hygene (sp) health and nutrition ) be deemed more important than not offending the parent.
By the way in the main I do think that kids belong in their family unit except in exceptional circumstances.

Sorry, just reread my post & realized I left a word out - meant to say 'we're totally 'DISGUSTED'!
We don't even get our eldest (14 year old) to change the baby's nappy, let alone a nine year old. That mess from the nappy has got to be all over their carpet, & the baby crawling through it all, & under the rubbish container is unbelievable. I really feel for those kids, the parents are just scum.

I shouldn't watch programs like this, they always upset me...I personally do not have kids, it is a conscious decision going years back because of the state of the country and being single - it would not be fair on any child to have to cope with that.....but to expect these young girls to bring up a family is incomprehensible
