but its not really by the sea at all. Thats tv trickery for ya :-) Its a small market town that they filmed in and it was given the name market shipborough and shown to be by the sea. Changed our town sign and changed my local to the startled duck :-)
they all used to drink in another pub close by after filming. My mate had come down to visit and we decided to go to this pub out of town, was lovely hot summers evening and as we got inside my mate said I recognise them people outside, I hadnt seen them and she said maybe theyre an old mates parents. Then when they walked in she said thats him there, I said thats Stephen Fry you plonker.
4get I visit Swaffham a lot, you should look out for me.
As said, good old light entertainment and besides, there was sod-all else on. I like the quaint drama/comedy genre it gives us an idyllic - if not unrealistic - view of life outside of the big smoke. I would have watched Gangs of New York but seeing as that finished at 1am on a Sunday morning (??!!!) I declined and had an early night with Mrs O.
I quite liked it. It was easy going and didnt tax my brain too much after a day of heavy sun bathing and BBQ. I like Stephen Fry and think he did quite well. I did find myself telling him not to be a fool and letting himself get walked on by his sister. hehe.
It was pleasing to find a 'gentle' drama. i.e. one which wasn't full of car chases or heroin addicts recalling their abusive childhoods. The plot was reasonably believable and its predictability only added to the my 'sense of well-being' at the end. (i.e. it was obvious that the guy seeking to prevent the new car park being built would be successful but it was still nice to have a happy ending!).
I recognised Swaffham but those aerial shots of the coast looked more like somewhere on the south coast to me. I thought that it was around Chichester but I'm happy to accept that it was Wells. I only know the pubs and the chippy in Wells ;-)
If Legal Girl thinks that SF needs a haircut, she obviously never saw Griff Rhys Jones in the first series of 'Restoration'. He must have had barbers across the country crying in despair ;-)
