Sorry it may be in wrong section but it is for tv fans. I am paying over 30 quid for my sky package - way too much.

Is it true if I stopped paying Sky, the tv I would be left with would be virtually the same as freeview and the Sky box would be mine?

Also, anyone tried the packages incorporating broadband, tv and phone? TYIA

If you remove your viewing card you will see what channels you have left.
I think though that sky do offer a freeview style card for a once off payment?
i'm sure that the sky box belongs to sky so ,if you cancel they take it away and you are left with just the wires , i upgraded to sky plus and i kept my old sky box ,but that was an upgrade -just an idea have you tried getting rid of the channels you never watch to reduce the monthly cost ?for example if you have the movie channels but never watch them ,go to the sky website for details
The box belongs to you.

If you stop paying a subscription you will be left with "Freesat". This gives you about 80 channels - all of those on Freeview and quite a few more. I did this to get a second box in my house when Sky were offering a subscription for 120 (two bundles) for a year. This included a new box and installation.

Freesat is a specific product offered by Sky which you can have installed without ever paying a subscription - it costs about 150 at the moment.

Yoy may need to buy a new viewing card from time to time - they cost about 25.
I did exactly this, and I now have Sky free channels plus Freeview. I notice that quite a few of the Freeview channels are not available on Sky without subscription. This include (I think) E4, Dave, UKHistory, More4 as examples. Sky seem to want 1 each for them.
Sky never asked for the box back and I have never renewed the card.
i did this but couldn't get e4. im suprised sky have any customers left. it's crap and overpriced for what your watching ie never ending repeats. i got freeview and dont miss sky at all. when nothing is on i only have 20+ channels to flick through instead of 200+.
sky dont do E4 for free and thats my fave channel so we just have a freeview box

ben d toy, just out of interest, did you just cancel the subscription? I am keen to, just don't want 1,0000000+ channels cropping up that, when you click them, say 'unavailable'. I don't want them at all! x
