I, too, had read that Sgt Wison was the father of Frank Pike. I always wondered if Frank was awre of this. I assumed that Frank honestly believed Arthur to be an uncle, but why lie to him? And if Frank knew then why pretend?

I think it's a moot point whether Sgt. Wilson is Pike's father, and he, Pike, may have been told to call him 'uncle' as was the fashion in those days for children to call parents' friends 'aunty' or 'uncle' just as a mark of respect.
its because it was outside of wedlock which at that time was a scandal !
I think that Frank did not know. It would have been a great social scandal at that time if it had been publicly known.
There was a radio sequel to Dads Army from the eighties called, "It Sticks out Half a Mile". It was set a few years after Dad's Army and the storyline was that Pike and Warden Hodges (Ian Lavender and Bill Pertwee) had bought a Run down old pier in a neighbouring south coast resort to Walmington on Sea and were renovating it. The Wilson character (John Le Mesurier) was their Bank manager. Pike (now an adult and businessman) still called Wilson, Uncle Arthur, which would suggest that Pike was blissfully unaware that he is Wilson's illegitimate son.
