eastenders violence

i don't watch eastenders so i can't really comment but someones comment on the Points of View website got me thinking. He said his wife was physically sick and his 13 year old son burst into tears during the stabbing and death scenes. Is this slightly over the top? Would a BBC programme really risk putting something on that bad or is this person overreacting? it would take a lot in a film or tv show to make me physically sick - and i'm sure Eastenders wasnt that bad was it?

Well some of the 13yr olds you hear about now in the news would be used to all them stabbings. I don�t think a watershed stops any kid watching now and if before watershed and that violent don�t let your child watch it. Simple as.

I saw the episode & for someone to be physically sick & a 13 year old bursting into tears is definitely O.T.T. and a case of over reacting.

I watched it myself, and unless i blinked and missed something, the stabbing wasnt seen. A guy flashed a knife, there was 1 punch to the stomach that was shown then everything else happened off screen then cut back to injured party lying on the floor.

As for the disturbing death scene...he looked to me like he just passed out. was only when he was in hospital that he died.

I don't know how these soap get away with it. Any other program would have to be on much later. They do seem to have some sort of exemption. They are certainly not suitable viewing for children.

it didn't show a stabbing - the family quoted in the original post have gone totally OTT.
I didn't realise he had been stabbed until the next episode when it stated that was what had killed him.
I thought he had 'just' been beaten up - but it didn't show much of that either.
Ok, maybe a bit much for a soap opera shown before the watershed & where it is known a lot of kids watch it - but there is far worse things that this particular episode shown far earlier.

EastEnders isn't a family or kids show- it's an adult drama. You shouldn't expect the show's content to be enitrely family friendly.

The people featured on that website sound like they are of a particularly sensitive nature or just being sensationalist. I really don't think it was all that violent.

I've been to a few films at the cinema recently, where the ratings were 12A. The violence in these films 10 years ago, would have warranted an 18 classification. Eastenders isn't anywhere near as violent as the type most kids are exposed to these days.

I agree with others, you did nt actually see anything. I`m another one who didnt realise Jason had been stabbed until the following night.
