Bad Freeview Area
10 Answers
Hey Guys,
Iv recently bought a sweet new 37inch LCD TV with freeview.
Unfortunately the only strong reception we have got is for BBC channels, the rest are really poor.
Iv tested out postcode which has verified the poor reception...
What is the best way to strengthen the signal? Anyone had a similar experience?

The digital signal is being kept low at the moment so it does not interfere with the analogue signal.
I know that does not help you now but it will get better.
Have you got a GOOD high gain aerial ?
Digital does require a good aerial.

its alright i think, the building is pretty old...
i have a cable that plugs into the wall (and into the back of the TV) and so i guess that will run up to the roof aerial? Not sure how good the actual aerial is. I live in a flat so would i share a massive aerial with the other 5 flats or will there be a single aerial for each flat?
Im sorry im not at home so cant check >_<

It's most likely the aerial. We had exactly the same problem until a few days ago. Analogue channels were receivable but ropey, only digital channels we got were BBC ones.
We had 3 tvs feeding off the same areial which wasn't up to the job.
We got a bloke to come round to fit a new aerial and everything is fine - loads of freeview channels and the analogue picture looks as good as the digital one.
It cost about 150.

I've posted a similar problem in the Technology bit. however my TV is not brand spanking new.
It is a LCD tv with built in Freeview but I have had it a year.
My problem is that in the begining I had all the channels and now, like you, ITV, Channel 4 etc etc etc are all missing.
Because I had them originally and now don't does not suggest to me that it is a problem with my aerial?!?!

We tried a signal booster and it didn' t work - in fact it actually made things worse, but you could still give it a go.
The aerial man we used charged nothing to come out and have a look, and told us the price up front if we wanted to go ahead. You should be able to find somone similar - that way you get the problem diagnosed by a professional without paying out unless you decide to.
