In all that is going on in with the world, credit crunch,horrendous bushfires causing death,soldiers dying in afghanistan,children getting abused and suffering,why oh why do the media put this at top of the media agenda,i couldnt give a scooby about carla romano spouting on about who she has met and interviewed and all that follow so called celebrity culture!!!

I've watched the Oscar highlights for many many years, right back to when Barbra Streisand gave John Wayne his.
They used to edit it down to just an hour or so, but about 7 years ago I started staying up to watch them on Sky. havn't done that for a few years now tho, I like the remembrance segment alot too.

The Oscars have been televised for decades
Wars,economic highs and lows,bush and forest fires,abuse have been going on FAR longer....
Why complain.....are we to just have all the doom and gloom in the news????
That would be as bad as a daily televised "Hello" magazine.
We can pick and choose what we watch...no-one is shoving it down our throats.

I think it's lost the glamour it once had. In the forties, fifties and sixties, celebs were real stars. you rarely saw them away from the movies. So it was a chance to see them as themselves i suppose.
They certainly weren't rammed down our throats on a daily basis!

It is only because there are so many different forms of media now.Whereas it was just TV and print.....now it is all over the internet.,and even in or mobiles! .plus it was once just American celebs that were followed..now it is British,all European countries,asia....and even India.
Besides-the media will only argue that they only give us what we want.

I enjoyed the footage, the repetition with the interviews was annoying but I suppose they were catering for the late wakers
