Mike:
Peter Adamson was found NOT guilty of indecent assault in relation to an incident in a swimming pool. The alleged victim testified that nothing inappropriate occurred and the police witness admitted that her view of the alleged incident was obscured.
ITV bosses did indeed drop Peter Adamson from the programme, using the excuse that it was time for the character of Len Fairclough to leave the series. In that case the old theory that 'mud sticks' seemed to apply yet, in more recent years, the acquittal of Craig Charles, on a far more serious sexual assault charge, seems to have done nothing to dent his career.
Very well AOG. Wasn't it a haberdashery shop he managed? Emily Nugent (as she was then) worked there and they were engaged at one point. Those were the days, eh. Ena, Minnie and Martha, Concepta Riley/Hewitt and Lucille. I remember most of them very well. See I am really, really old.!!!
I think Ciaran (Keith Duffy) is the best looking of the male cast but I don't know why they brought him back - all he does is serve the occasional drink..lol
Anyone remember Miami Modes?
I feel really ancient as I have watched Corrie from the very first episode. I'm so sad, that when I go on holiday, I even record all the episodes! I remember Miami Modes - Elsie Tanner, Christine Appleby and Pat Greenhalgh worked there.
I think Carla's fella is the fittest, with Cieran a close second - he's not that great to look at, but certainly has the Irish charm! I think the fittest guy ever was the other guy who played Nick - Adam somebody, he was absolutely gorgeous!
Just read your post Chris. You are right of course, Peter Adamson was acquitted but allegedly confessed some time later to a Sun reporter, after having been plied with money and whisky. No further action was taken after the reporter had apparently 'mislaid' the tapes.
Annie Walker and Florrie Lindley were contemporaries. Annie ruled the roost in the Rovers while Florrie ran the shop at the other end of the street.
The shop run by Leonard Swindley and Emily Nugent was called 'Gamma Garments' One of the characters frequently referred to but who never actually appeared was the area manager, Mr. Papadopoulos. Arthur Lowe resurrected this concept in Dad's Army with frequent references to his wife Elizabeth, who also never appeared. This device was used to great effect in 'Keeping Up Appearances' with the non-appearance of Hyacinth's son , Sheridan, her sister Violet (room for a pony) and her kinky husband Bruce.
If I remember correctly, the Glad Tidings Mission Hall of which Ena was the caretaker, was the responsibility of the aforementioned Leonard Swindley, which would lead to the occasional run-in between the two.
Sheila Birtles and Doreen Bostock!! Those names came to me. Goodness me, how much we are able to store in our brains.
Tizzi. If you are old then so am I. I too remember the very first episodes. I can't say I have watched them all and there are great chunks I missed when I was in my teens and early twenties and gadding about a lot, but I still love Corrie. It's an institution.
And I still think Liam Connor was the fittest male in it!!! Phew, Liam in his Boxers!!!! :o)
