When Lord Alan says the candiates are 'Fired' on the Apprentice... What are they being 'Fired' from? Because none of them work for him do they!?

It's a notional "Fired" from the competition - no they don't work for him until they win the final round.

It wouldn't be quite the same if he said "sorry, but you have not been short listed and we wish you success in the future".
I think you're probably being a bit obtuse here, aren't you? They're actually just being "fired" from the process of getting to be his apprentice, in other words, being eliminated.
