Seen on the News tonight ... 1,000's of complaints about the Eastenders "cot death baby swap" story.

Isn't this all a bit over the top?

It's just a story.

I think it is over the top really!.........it's fictional!..............
i think complaining over it is over the top. Id say there is more than a 1000 that have thought how well it has been acted out. And i bet the people that complained still watch it.

4get ...

"One viewer" said she was never going to watch it again.

I can hear the panic at the BBC, LOL
loads complained bout shilpa being bullied on bb but they wouldnt complain about bullying in a soap because it brings awareness to it. Just like this should bring more awareness to cot death.
I'm on the fence

Okay, dotty ...

I got a load of these dodgy necklaces. Can you shift them for me?
I don't like the storyline as I find it quite upsetting but that wouldn't make me pick up the phone and call Ofcom or whatever the complaints dept. is.
cash for gold is the way to go JJ-or not
excactly tigger, it's an upsetting story line, but it is fictional, and if we don't want to watch, we all have a remote control, and can change the channel!.......

Dotty ...

Dodgy goods need someone to "fence" them ... !
if you say so JJ, I do my own deals oop ere in the safer less challenging Northern bit of the UK
I don't think the complaints are over the top, although this is probably owing to my own experience. I don't like the fact that mother's whose children go bonkers in this manner.
Since my daughter died, i've had enough trouble relating to other people, let alone them now thinking from a soap i might go banannas and steal their children. I don't actually watch eastenders, and with the current storyline I'm pretty glad i dont. A lot of the parents on the SANDS forum have been talking about the storyline, at first hopeful they might portray the death of your child in a sensitive way that tried to help other people understand what it feels like, and now just annoyed that a good opportunity to make people realise that 17 families go through this a day has been wasted by making the storyline so unrealistic and sensational
whoops, accidentally erased some of the line " mothers whose children HAVE DIED"
Personally, I have no experience of anything approaching the issues in this particular storyline.
It doesn't mean that I don't understand the distress of those who have and for whom this storyline is painful............
well said bednobs. Agree on your last bit but i still wouldnt complain.
but if only the writers would "understand" that stealing someone elses baby is not the way that people cope with the death of their own
Question Author
Well, I haven't seen it (but you can hardly miss all the trailers), so I don't know if it's sensational ... although it is supposed to pull in viewers. It's not a documentary. It's a fictional story.

But, when I was little, had a brother who died that way, and it was me who found him in his cot ... so I can relate to both points of view.
So sad bednobs, but this is a soap! not reality, I know it must be distressing, but it is pure fiction, you really need to seperate this from reality!............
I think they could have dealt with the cot death side of things very well, but they have overstretched it with the babyswap/theft story on top, and I think that is where they have gone wrong.

Soaps have in the past dealt with sensitive issues very well.
Oh jj, so very hard for you to cope with!..............
