is the percentage of gay contestants that actually get picked for the programme a true reflection of the number of gay applicants? Or indeed a true reflection of the actuall population of the UK? Or do some of them pretend thinking it is going to make them stand out?

How can you tell? Do they act like Alan Carr? Do they announce their sexuality? Or is it just deducible from more subtle signals?
