Can anyone tell me please whether it is possible to "block" the annoying message about the switchover - another 3 months away - which keeps appearing regularly on the screen - and, more importantly, on anything I record? It's fine if I'm actually watching the TV - I can cancel it - but I've got all these messages on things I record - blocking the bottom third of the picture. Have I got to live with it for another 3 months or is it possible to end it all now?! Many thanks in advance for your help.

no.
That's no, you can't block it, not no I can't tell you. The most annoying thing I found was just when you had retuned and thought it was all over (switchover day) I got a message to retune again a bit later.
I think it was made clear that TWO separate re-tunings were required.
Well you thought wrong then cos it wasn't made clear at all. Anologue would be switched off, and digital fully switched on, the retune being needed because some digital channels prior to switchover would be reasssigned to other channels.
Well let's say everyone round here was aware that two re-tunings ( one week apart) were needed. Perhaps we pay more attention?
The digital switchover in our area last August was a huge pain - no point at all in my opinion as I rarely watch other channels only the main ones. The message on the screen was really annoying, it appeared so often and obscured part of the screen for what seemed ages. Now we are fully digital its still a massive pain as the picture freezes at regular intervals and the sound cuts off for a few seconds often missing vital speech. People say we need a digital aerial but at what price? - no thanks, we've already bought a new TV with Freeview, our video is a pain to work through our Sky (thank goodness we have that or it meant buying a new digital recorder) and my lovely little Casio 5" screen portable TV I used to take out in the car or on holiday is now defunct!!! In addition the Ceefax information is extremely poor now it has switched to digital, lots of info gone and not updated often enough, and no breaking news etc etc. What has this silly switchover cost us all? Grrr! Its a regular rant of mine!! :(

As far as I know, if you were getting good analogue signal you are unlikely to need a new aerial. Are you sure you get the digital signal from the same transmitter as you were getting the analogue from? You may need the aerial pointing in a different direction.
