We watched it, thought it was quite good, neither of us has read the book, but we both thought the story/setting/characters were very familiar.

My OH got quite freaked by it, he hadn't read the book, he thought it was rather creepy, I haven't told him yet that it gets worse.

Wasn't scared until the ghost of the brutal man put his face right up to the woman while she was in bed - slept with my light on after that !

Is this the one where the family move in to what used to be an old school/orphanage and there's a lot of wet footprints, random noises and general creepyness? One of the girls can see something and there's a dead son somewhere in it too... If that's it then I definitely read the book.

yes that's the one, the son is missing presumed abducted a year before they get to the house. the mother thinks the ghost children can tell her where he is
