Merrill Streep plays every part well. I have the DVD and I haven't watched it yet so I didn't see the film on TV. I'm sure it will be good though.
Oscar winning performance indeed.
I'm watching it now on 4+1. I'm enjoying it more than I expected(not a fan of Thatcher). I like the contrast between 'now and then'.
saw it in the cinema last hear ... just seen it again on the tv

meryl streeps' best ever performance
the oscar was well deserved

I'm sure your right Maidup.
I'd like to see this dramatization of the life of a tyrant - is it on BBC iplayer?
I agree. She was amazing. I don't think there has ever been a better representation of a living person right down to her voice, mannerisms and looks. They got Denis (the older version) wrong - the real Denis was much more charming and well spoken. Geoffrey Howe was a very accurate portayal as well.

Goodness I hadn't realised it had been on the cinema. Prob because I haven't been in years.

I misquoted from the Great Monty Python Bok:
"Oh, it's blessed are the MEEK! Oh, I'm glad they're getting something, they have a hell of a time".
Please forgive me.
...sorry, wrong thread LOL
It would be on 4OD,Answerprancer.
It came out in 2011 cupotee. I didn't go to see it as I didn't think I'd like it, but I'm pleased I've seen it now just for Meryl Streep's performance.

See how many awards she won...

Thanks Pasta, oh poo I'll have to torrent it (hate the adverts).
Great film .I've got it on DVD.She's a superb actress .
I watched another one with her recently ,Julie &Julia where she played the cook Julia Child .Brilliant .
What a travesty of a film. What was all that rubbish of Dennis turning up like Harvey the rabbit. Her finest speech was her last one in Parliament which was not shown at all in the film. Where were the other female MP's in Parliament. None were shown in the film. It seems that the film concentrated on her dementia and not how she took a country on it's knees with powerful unions to a country that people could be proud of. She was Britain's longest serving Prime Minister but it seemed it was more important to show Dennis Thatcher walking about with no shoes on. What was that all about .He looked more like Stanley Unwin. A truly awful bio-pic of a great person.
I spent a few hours in Edwina Currie's house a few years ago (don't ask) and she had the most pristinely polished bog I've ever been into, there were some framed photos in there including one of Thatch scowling in the background as Edwina was giving a speech. I particularly loved the depth of field (speaking as an amateur photographer) Thatch was perfectly blurred behind Edwina and no, I'm not joking.

I just downloaded and watched it.
I thought Merrill Streep was brilliant and the film was well put together but nothing outstandingly special. I wonder if anyone else thought that "Carol" sounded exactly like "Candice Marie" from Nuts In May, so much so that I carefully scanned the credit roll to see if she was played by Alison Steadman!
I'm curious to see more opinions from AB's contingent of tories and the handful of fascists that reside here.
*Meryl
