Ab Fab
I've just seen a few minutes of Ab Fab as the Rugby final is too depressing and I was amazed to hear Patsy refer to a male gay escorting the other one as a "fag bangle". Would that be allowed these days?

Ratter - //I really don't think being called a "Fag" is humorous at all. I have only ever heard the word used in a derogative manner. its hardly a PC issue, its bloody insulting and unpleasant. //
As always, context is everything.
I am sure that any person who has grown up gay in the country has developed a thick enough skin to accept that the use of this term in a sitcom is used without malice, and purely for comic effect.
Gay people tend to save getting upset for the numerous far more vicious and cruel slights that society throws at them on a daily basis.

For jj, from wiki...
// Gay is a term that primarily refers to a homosexual person or the trait of being homosexual. The term was originally used to mean "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy".
The term's use as a reference to homosexuality may date as early as the late 19th century, but its use gradually increased in the 20th century.[1] In modern English, gay has come to be used as an adjective, and as a noun, referring to the people, especially to gay males, and the practices and cultures associated with homosexuality. By the end of the 20th century, the word gay was recommended by major LGBT groups and style guides to describe people attracted to members of the same sex.[2][3] //
