I realise that Everyone on TV has to wear a poppy from October onwards.,but putting one on The Cookie Monster on the One Show is surely is a bit much

I didn't see the show, but that does sound a bit daft to me. I am almost at the point that I refuse to give to the charity because everyone has to wear a poppy on TV, from presenters to game show contestants.

The fancy ones and tiny ones annoy me most. It's a great charity and I respect every person the poppies are acknowledging, but it seems to be obligatory now.

The Remembrance Poppies are for a very important charity..don't you think Mamalynne that putting them on puppets rather diminishes what they stand for.

No I don't, sorry if that upsets you but having grown up and been involved with both the military and the RBL for many years I am happy for anyone or any character to wear one if they wish.

Or in Cookie Monster's case whoever decided for him/it.


But then I have some swanky Poppy items too which I paid good money to the charity which I care deeply about, so I guess I'm out of step here.


It's not as if someone has desecrated a War Memorial, now that is disgraceful, but really all this over who/what sports a Poppy?

I think if the British Legion are happy to sell fancy ones, tiny ones, truck and car ones, wristbands and goodness knows what else with poppies on then it ill behoves the rest of us to disapprove. I also know there is a “thing” now among crafters to make their own poppies and wear them. they still make a donation as well. last year our village got “poppy bombed” by local crocheters. Every poppy they made was afterwards sold. So long as we do something to remember those who are gone and to support those who need it, what does it matter?

That's lovely Tony, I have knitted and crochet ones, silk ones and yes sparkly ones. Doesn't matter how many I have, I still donate each year at various times, not just at Remembrance time.

The special edition Somme ones they did this year were beautiful and raised a lot of money.

I'll have to take a look at the British Legions poppy table by the clock ( poppy sellers ) maybe they will have some.

Just watched the vid on how they are made, lot of work goes into them.
