Had 2 cats at the vet today, both for checkups.

Late mum’s cat didn’t get the prognosis I expected. Bottom line is it may be kinder to have her put down. I have myself asked this question many times lately but she doesn’t appear to be suffering in anyway, she still tries to chase your fingers or a paper ball. I’d never let her or want her to suffer in any way but I’m not ready for another loss. She’s like a final link with Mum.

Dad said it’s up to me to make the final decision but I just cannot bring myself to do that, it was hard enough making the choice to have our first cat put to sleep, which was a family decision.

Why is life so cruel?

you'll know the moment when she is suffering, Queenie......so it may not yet be the moment.
If she still wants to play, how much suffering can there be? When my beloved pets lives have come to an end, they definitely didn't want to play. Maybe keep her a little while longer and see how she progresses? Best of luck.

It’s not thankfully DT which is a blessing.
HereIam - she’s just fur and bone with a never ending appetite. She’s partially sighted and deaf as a post. But she still has a lot of love to give. But I plan to see how she goes, I’ll know when it’s her time. Thank you
She's not ready yet Queenie.....x
You will indeed know, but for now there's still a little hope. All you can do is love her with all your heart, which you obviously do anyway. I fully understand the link with your Mum as I too have lost a beloved Mum.

She isn’t Patsy..you know for a cat she is VERY opinionated.

I will HIA, thank you for your kind words. Mum did have another cat (funnily enough he was at the vet too) but he has been more attached to me than he was to her. I’ll make the rest of her days as comfy and as happy as I can.

Did you ask why 'it would be kinder', Queenie?
Two things come to mind....severe diabetes or less likely malignant disease. There are may ways that humans or cats can suffer other than pain and it is my opinion that it would be kinder to have her put down.
I also think you will know when she has had enough. Just prepare yourself as much as you can xx
well I wouldn't put her down either if she is still playful etc. My Harvey was diagnosed with a tumour on his or around his throat and he was simply brilliant for another 2 and half years. When the time came I knew - he couldn't breathe and gasping for air all within hours and of course I knew that his time had come. You will know Queenie.

Really JJ?
Sqad - she is still playing. Hope nobody puts you down when you are still playing about.
^^^ LOL...^^

Pretty much of your above statement applies to me except for the fur and bone. I'm partially sighted, deaf as a post and have a never ending appetite. Would you put me down.
Depends JJ...do you still wear silk underwear, that would be a deciding factor?
Queenie, I don't think you can keep the cat alive just because it was your mum's. I know it will be difficult but try to imagine what your mum would do if she had been told that it would be kinder to put her cat asleep.
fur coat and no knickers - would that help Sqad in your deciding factor.

Sorry Queenie for digressing unnecessarily here.
Take some time Queenie
