Alf Garnett
Was In Sickness And In Health shown in ITV or BBC ?
Do you know why it seems you can't get the programme on DVD, when every other programme ever made now appears as a box set?
or, if you know where I can get it, please advise.
Till Death Us Do Part is available on DVD.

In this PC time I think there would be too many complaints (even though he was supposed to represent all that was BAD in bigotry and racism).
Although Alf was the ultimate bigot he did have a strong following at the time because he said what many people were thinking but too scared to say.
I remember strikers carrying placards saying Alf Garnett is right.
Having said that Love Thy Neighbour is out on DVD and that was worse, and without the subtlty of Johnny Speight's writing.

Some of the colour episodes are out on DVD.
As far as I know, not a lot of the black and white episodes survive.

Thanks, but that is Till Death Us Do Part, I've got all of them.
In Sickness & In Health came after that.
i think vehelpfulguy has hit the nail on the head, the show laughed at nationalism, racism, ageism, male chauvinism, and every other ism, so it looks like the do-gooders have prevented it being re-released on DVD.
as has already been said i would have thought it was just a milder version of what Love Thy Neighbor produced, and even Dave Allen from that time got close to the knuckle.
why pick on someone who became something of an national institution?

Warren Mitchell played a ignorant bigot, spouting the guff that a lot of people WERE saying at the time.
The glory of the programme was that he was constantly made to look like the foolish, ignorant racist the character was. He lost every time.
I would love to see it again. Warren Mitchell was a superb actor.

Sorry macari, forgot you were asking about "In sickness..." by time I answered the question.
"Till Death Us Do Part" was released by Network DVD, they are most likely to be the ones to release "In Sickness..."
http://www.networkdvd.co.uk
though it isn't on their forthcoming list as yet.
This cult web site would list the title if any other company plans to release it...
http://www.zetaminor.com
click on "DVD" and then the "Incoming" link.
All DVD releases have to be passed by the BBFC ( I have searched the title and it doesn't show up )

click on "recent decisions" and then "video and DVD".
