Judging by some of the heart wrenching stories that accompany some of the contestants on The X Factor, should be broadcasted in the hope of swaying the judges decision?

as far as I am concerned the contestants' back stories should not be told to the judges...or the viewing public either.....the knowledge of it once known cannot be unknown so somewhere along the line it may make a difference to the public perception of the contestant.

but I suppose that as a particular contestant progressed further in the competition someone somewhere would let it be known to the press

X Factor is a talent contest not a 'feel sorry for me and put me through contest', but then we don't live in a perfect world.

I don't know how some of the contestants have the nerve to go on, I can sing better than most of them, and I'm "CR*P"

It is all about making good telly. Even the editing is totally American in style now- cue singer crying with joy- cut to Simon Cowell winking at them- cut to emotional music.It's all so predicatable. Simon Cowell knows that a singer will have far more public interest if there is a "story" to accompany them. A news item. A reason for us to like them, or feel sorry for, or be intrigued by them. It's not the judges that are swayed by the singer's life story, it's the public! It simply makes for a more interesting show. We are the ones obsessed with celebrities lives, and couldn't give a toss about their latest single. Pete Doherty- what did he sing? I've never even heard his voice!! But his lifestyle choices are what make him an interesting character and story. The X-factor contestants are no different.
