I loved "Open all hours" but I don't think it would work bringing it back. I think it is best left alone, I love watching repeats though.

Or you could buy it on DVD?

If you mean remake it, no no and NO! It was a classic and shouldn't be dabbled with.

Just for a one off.....What do you think?
Well seeing as Ronnie Barker is dead, it'd be a bit difficult.
Question Author
Granville isn't......Just nostalgia, a trip down memory lane type comedy.....??
Question Author
Let's get a petition going!
Nah wouldnt appeal any more
Question Author
Beg to differ........Shall we get a petition?
I honestly can't see the appeal if Arkwright's no longer in it. You need him and Granville together to make the magic.
Question Author
C'mon, where's your sense of adventure. It would be just a nostalgic trip for Granville with a comedic twist.

I'm going to write to the BBC....Do you think they would advance me a huge amount of money for this idea?
Well, they appear to have green-lighted a load of tosh in recent history, so I don't see why not.................
Question Author
Good, well i think all of us on AB should get a petition going for its return.
No way without Barker and Beckensale...its like redoing the Prisoner without McGoohan...what a waste of money and time that is
Question Author
Richard Beckinsale wasn't in Open All Hours?
yes i know but someone mentioned bringing back porridge too
A fair bit of the humour of Open All Hours was the stuttering of Arkwright, I can't see the BBC agreeing to a character like that these days (to have his stuttering laughed at I mean).
The old shows had a perfect cast, leave well alone, it just wouldn't be the same if re-made.
It wouldnt work now i dont think. It had its day and should be left alone now!
The only scenario I can imagine would be that Arkwright is dead (obviously!) and that Granville has taken over his uncle's shop. I suppose the twist would be that, despite Granville's best efforts to join the permissive society, he has actually turned into Arkwright.

Sometimes these sequels (or even prequels) work, like Rock and Chips. However, more often they are embarrassingly cringe-worthy, like First of the Summer Wine.
Trouble is, most corner shops are open all hours these days so it wouldn't be a unique shop would it/
There is a stage version...
