Hi. Just bought me a strut brace for my alfa 147. Wasn't sure of the benefits when i bought it but it was a real bargain (25 quid new!). I know that they are supposed to help the handling but i wondered if they hold any other benefits? I was told that they can slow down tyre wear due to keeping maximum tread on the road. Is this true? Thanks.

Are you going to be throwing this car about a bit Banger ? Strut braces and such stuff only really needed for rally type driving. Your car has a pretty sophisticated suspension setup as standard.

I do like to put my foot down a bit but only where possible. I don't break any speed limits anyway!

I would like to take it to a track day though at some point but i bought it mainly because i'm a sucker for a bargain and i know they usually retail at over 60.

Just wondered what benefits they had really!

Thanks.

they are intended to strengthen the body. to make it more rigid when cornering. i guess they would give better tyre life, but thats only a guess. as you probably know a car will distort when going through a tight turn. these things are there to reduce distortion in the body. if i had your car and were offered the strut brace for 25, ide have snapped the guys arm off and fitted it !
