What, in your oppinion, is a good first car?
please dont say a fiat whats-its-name (the one that has 2 seats and no-one can spell)

Anything that you can get for 3 or 4 hundred quid or so and afford to insure; ignore the badge or any percieved status or style....... because you will likely put it in a ditch at some point, you then weigh it in for scrap and get another: it'll be a whole lot cheaper than making an insurance claim!!

I'd try to go for something Japanese, a guy I know has a micra he bought for �200 as a cheap runabout (he commutes weekly from Hull to Aberdeen by air and keeps the micra up here for getting to work). It's economical, cheap to insure and hasn't gone wrong in the 8000 miles he's had it.
Don't be tempted to buy anything with too many gadgets, they are just more thigns to go wrong,. Try and buy something which is popular so that parts are easily and cheaply available.
