Bought a car off a neighbour which had been written off by his insurance company due to someone driving into the back of him,back light broken and rear back panel pushed in,i wanted it for spares only and then to scrap it,when it was originally purchased by my neighbour,he bought it as a category c write off,and this was written on th v5 log book,the wife has decided she wants it repaired as the damage isn't very severe so she can use it.it still had 8 months mot left on it.i've just read through some previous questions on this site that the car has to have a vosa inspection and can this be done twice,as this is the 2nd time this car has been written off and it had also been hit at the back the 1st time.and is the mot valid or do i need to get a new one done after the vosa test.,the v5 has been filled out with my details aswell and posted off but as i haven't done anything with the car yet will it still come back in my name.

no,they will not issue you with the v5 until the vosa vic test has been done,yes it can be done twice,the test is really to determine it is the car in question and not a ringer,but get the repairs done first.

Get the repairs done, new MOT test, insure & tax it. Check with DVLA as a cat C write off it may not need a VOSA test unless you want to sell it. You will not get reminders from DVLA to re-tax it though.

A,B and C,have to have a vosa test,only cat D do not.
