epc light vw polo
Racking brain V.W polo 2005 . EPC light on break lights not working checked all bulbs and replaced break light switch . Break lights work if I bypass the break light switch with a small bit of wire ! .Now thinking of taking it to dealer ������ ! any thoughts Thank you

and if not warranty, then VW are currently pricematching work, just get a cheaper quote (using vw parts and within 10 miles of retailer) in writing and they will match the price for you...

Glad you got it sorted DP, unfortunately I represent the robbing bas&*ards! In our defence, the money we have to charge is representative of the huge cost of equipment and training that we must have... one diagnostic computer alone costs us as much as a new polo a �8000, and we have to have a minimum number of those! Anyhoo, merry christmas and happy motoring!
OK the story so far . I had to take the car in on Friday the 4th as the misfiring had got really bad epc light on . This is the weird thing when I put the car into reverse and lifted the clutch it lost all power . no response to the throttle at all . I had hell on to get it out of my drive very lite clutch work . on the way to the garage it died on me several times.
Left it at polo garage. The garage rang me the next day and said ( wait for it ) We had the car in and we can find nothing wrong with it ! but we will keep it so that we can road test it. So I said no problem. 1hr later they phoned back hello Mr robson (The clutch has gone) so we cannot road test it.
So I had to agree to a new clutch �400 + Waiting for parts. 2 Days later I rang garage for a report on progress .Hello Mr robson we found another fault The clutch slave cylinder has to be replaced .Good on them they said they would carry the cost of this. It is now Monday and i have not heard a thing from them .i will let you know how things turn out.

Hmm. Sounds a bit odd. Clutch failure wouldn't have caused the lack of response from the throttle pedal - it would've just revved but gone nowhere.... at least they are replacing the slave cylinder under warranty... And they should be able to tell you why the EPC light was on? Anyhoo, let me know how you get on. And it's worth remebering that if a retailer finds a fault thats covered by warranty, they get paid by VW for fixing it!

I asked about the lack of power and EPC but the chief engineer had just gone out ? . The car is now running lovely .I tell you Its all a mystery to me how the clutch -slave cylinder effect the power to the engine. Give me a 1964 ford Cortina at least I new how thay worked and I could get in there with a good old fashioned spanner and socket set.

I know what you mean, Dusty! I'm with you - slave cylinder failure would've usually showed itself by the clutch pedal not returning - the only lack of power would've been accompanied by plenty of revs.... Best thing to do is give them a tinkle and ask if you can speak to either the Service Manager or the Master Technician. Just explain that you want a little clarification of the faults they found - they should be happy to help. If they found no fault with the loss of power you experienced, check that they have recorded the fact that you reported it - it'll help if it reoccurs outside the warranty period.
And if you get no joy there, call VW Customer Care on 0800 711811 - they can liase with the retailer for you.

Hi JJ, i know this thread is old, but like you seem to know about these cars, i have a vw polo 2003, which since i bought it, has a vibrating sound that any service garage seem to find or know what it is. It comes from the engine area, but it only sounds when the car is running (it doesn't sound when i hit the gas while stopped) and is kind of like the sound of a diesel car, you know, that vibrating sound when your going up a hill and you have to lower a gear... My polo is automatic and is petrol engine, and i've noticed that it only does it around 2,000 revs and i'm hitting the gas pedal softer that the car needs to go faster... do you understand what i mean? Thanks!
