2003 Golf mk 4 luggage compartment

tailgate in properly closed. driving along and every now and again there is an audible warning and luggage compartment open displayed in dash. the boot is NOT open as i have just made sure! but it still says it is. i have already fitted a new catch mechanism in the tailgate.
Anyone got any bright ideas as to why it is doing this?

Hi, when you open the boot, There is a pluger simular to the one's when you open any front or rear doors in your car, If i am right, yours will be at the middle base of the rear HATCH , in other words, when you stand at the rear of your car, in the middle of the hatch back tail gate, it is at the inside bottom, check that the Screws/Bolts/Nuts, are tight, + the connecting Plug T.W.R.

Hi again, I have just re/read your problem, you said every "now & again" to me you have a bad connection somewhere, Check the Plug, you said you have just changed the Mechanism there is you problem Im sure. T.W.R.
