Yes if it's a manual.

If towing any automatic do not exceed 20mph and only for a short distance.

When the engine of an auto is not running oil is not circulating in the auto gearbox so damage could occur.

Thanks tourman, for your reply. My XC 70 is an automatic and I was told by the AA that it was OK for them to tow me max 50 miles at no more than 50 miles per hour. Unfortunately good bye gearbox.
