Roof Rack Dilemma

I have an 07 Vauxhall Astra Estate, Design model; I would like to but a roof rack that has dual purpose:

1) Carries 2 bikes
2) Can also be used to carry the norm of equipment/canoes/bag/boxes etc. (obviously not at the same time!)

Can anyone shed any light? I have been looking all over and the market is saturated! Seems most do one or the other?!

Have you looked at Halfords web site. You can get cross bars that clamp onto rail of car roof, then all you need is fittings for cycles and roof box. (If you can justify expense I would get 2 sets of rails then you can have roof box/rails as a set that is easy to put on and take off. Takes about 10 to 20 minutes.) Don't know if you can get old fashioned roof racks that you can strap anything onto. Roof box is good for soft items that be squashed in, but remember to wrap in plastic in case rain gets in.
