if i charge the battery with it in place do i have to disconnect the leads before i connerct my charger? or can i do it with leads in place?

I always do it wiith the leads in place.
Like novalis, I always charge mine with the leads in place but......I have been told that it's possible to damage the diodes in the alternator by doing this. If you decide to disconnect the leads make sure you have the radio code.
I have never had any problem with the charger being connected Brummie but, if your battery has the caps on the top to top up with distilled water remove the caps to minimise the pressure build up within the battery.
