Which is greener?

Which is "greener"?- a big heavy gas guzzler (range rover /jag v12 etc) carrying a full load of passengers?- or a economical everyday diesel with only driver on board?

The big vehicle, most likely.
When full, a train is pretty environmentally friendly. TBH a 747-500 is too when compared to cars travelling separately and over that distance.

very simply multiply fuel consumption by passengers.

for example... eco car that does 50mpg with one passenger.
50 x 1 = 50mpg per passenger

Jag that does 15mpg with 5 passengers
15 x 5 = 75mpg per passenger.

Yeah but if it's a GTR it's got a couple of F off great big turbos on it :)

How can you use the term 'greener' Tali? There seems to be a misconception about some motor vehicles being kinder to the environment than others.

Firstly, it costs more damage to the environment to put any new vehicle in the showroom (manufacturing) than that vehicle will ever cause in it's lifetime of burning fossil fuel. That's the strongest argument for keeping old vehicles on the road (provided they are safe) in the same way as we are urged to continue using most other goods once they have been manufactured.

Secondly - how can anyone driving around emitting the products of fossil fuels from their tail pipes even consider the issues of 'green'? Each vehicle is just as poisonous as any other. Regardless of the vehicle, if you run a hose pipe from the exhaust into the car you would soon find out how 'green' a vehicle is, regardless of model or age! You would be just as dead and just as quickly, no matter which 'green' vehicle you tried it on!
