Y reg Astra with new front & back brake pads and discs fitted
4 Answers
Was told by garage that while discs are new and shiny that I best not tailgate anyone until the new parts bed in (not that I tend to do that anyway)
But does this mean that my brakes will not be as effective as they should be until this bedding in period is up?
Also am I safe to drive car in the current wintery conditions we have?
Also the handbrake lever is a lot slacker than it was and when I pull it up the handbrake is not effective and I can physically roll the car backwards and forwards. Took it back to the garage and was told that there was no point in adjusting the handbrake until after this new brake parts bedding in period was up. Is this right? It means that at the moment I am obviously unable to park on any kind of incline!
TIA

The only thing they should tell you is to use your brakes gently for about 100 miles to bed them in, they will work as normal during that period. Tailgating is nothing to do with it.
They will work ok when they are bedded in, they have not adjusted the handbrake properly, that should work properly as it did before you got the new discs and pads!

Yes.
If anything, the discs/pads will give va softer braking effect .. which can only help in this weather.
I bed new customers brakes (when on new discs) Several gradual light slowdowns. A few sharp stops when cooled, then when cooled a bit, a couple of firmer stops. That should be all needed.
Either handbrake mechanism not fitted/set up correctly .. or cable too slack. Ridiculous excuse. Even brand new brakes should have operational handbrake.
Get i back there asap.
