small spare

the spare tyre on my fiat stilo is a little smaller and narrower than the others. italso has a sticker saying only use in an emergency. is this the norm and would it be safe? thanks for any replies

it is known as a space saver, and does exactly what the name suggests.

the drawback is that you should only drive below 50mph with it on, and get your original tyre fixed/repaired asap.

if your car has alloy wheels, you wouldn't want to drive with one steel wheel anyway, would you? that would look silly!

I drove a VW Golf GTI on an emergency wheel a couple of times, and it did look faintly ridiculous and embarrassing.

lol!! it is a temporary solution until you get the original tyre/wheel sorted. think yourself lucky as most cars now come with a can of foam repair to sort punctures!!!as long as they provide something which is classed as temporary repair then they are ok as a spare wheel is not a legal requirement in th uk

My Dear Pattylou get this : We purchased a nice new Kia Picanto, they don't even have a spare wheel.

Got a puncture on the way to a wedding, shreaded the tyre, went to put the spare on....Ummmm just a big hole in the boot and in its place a sad looking pump thing and some latex glue, that you pump in to the tyre.

Tyre ********....Tow truck called, lift to wedding, car at venue until Kia took wheel to car.

Tow truck costs �125 + a spare wheel kit with jack and wheel brace.

The total price was �119 inc VAT

Total : �244.00

Oh the joys of modern motoring, I wish we had an anorexic wheel to complain about !..
