Audi A3 (latest model)
I believe that these are one of the nicest looking cars on the road, a little on the pricey side for the size, but good resale value as there doesn't appear to be too many about. Anbody got any thoughts?

The downsides are that they are, again as you have said, rather expensive for what they are and for what you get, worst of all, they aint that special to drive, the ride and handling are stodgy and they are not particularly fast. To my eyes they always look like a big arsed Golf in an expensive frock, which is basically what they are!
BMWs are much better value for money, unless you want the much over-rated 1 Series or the poxy Mini.
However, anything made by the Volkswagen Audi Group is bound to be better than any of the complete cr@p that Ford (Europe), Vauxhall/Opel, Peugeot, Renault and Fiat all churn out by the billion.
