Usual fine was £200 or there abouts, but whether that has changed yet i do not know,
as for getting caught - its a bit like using a mobile phone - Not often enough.
Fully comp is normally a little higher in premiums but you are covered for a lot more so may be beneficial.
glad i'm not under 20years old.

An additional consideration for the young lady is that if caught she will receive a minimum of six penalty points and under the “New Drivers” regulations she will revert to provisional licence status and have to re-take her test (both parts). Following this offence the requested premium will rocket even higher and if caught without insurance again she will face disqualification.
All the time the fine is comparatively low people will run the risk of driving uninsured - if they don't get caught, and there's a strong possibility they won't, it will save them money.
For those that are caught make the fine a minimum of £1,000 together with a lengthy ban and seize and then sell the car with the proceeds from the sale being fed to the coffers of the MIB.
Advertise these punishments heavilly so that they become common knowledge.
The victims of uninsured drivers are compensated by the MIB. The MIB is paid for by insurance companies who provide motor insurance and they, obviously, pass the cost on to those of us who do buy insurance.

The insurance system should be Graded, 18 >>> 25, 25>>>>>35, & so on, why the hell should we, the persons that have had not accidents whatsoever pay an increase for these so called tear arsers that think they can drive? if they have a bump hard sht, they will learn, if they cannot afford the insurance as any one, then caught without, 12 month ban simple, Ok you do goodies, give us the hard luck stories, as you usually do.
