Ongoing headgasket problem

I've been struggling trying to deal with the above and have a question for those in the know.
My 1992 Merc 190e (1.8) blew its headgasket a few months ago and I've had the thing apart and can now see the damage. The surface of the head has two nasty pits in it, I've been advised that the pits can easily be welded up and the head skimmed but was wondering what is the best choice: have the pits welded and the head skimmed (which means dismantling all the valves etc) or seek out a second hand head with all its valves already there. I guess the costs are similar.
