All racing cars have them, the only problem would be carrying them with you? Can they not introduce a Steering wheel that was light in weight & removable to deter car thefts? Funny / Stupid? I'm waiting for it, think about it

That's actually not a bad idea but maybe there's not something 100% safe as to have your steering wheel come off on the motorway or in a place where there are many pedestrians could be fatal to vehicle passengers and pedestrians, maybe a future o the dragons den beckons for you if you could bring this idea to market, then again maybe the criminals would just break into your car and have a spare steeringwheel.
something so easy to remove may prove difficult to remain safe. What if it fell off when driving? Racing cars are mechanically checked a heck of a lot thoroughly that day to day cars.
I can never understand why anyone would buy the tyres they use on F1 cars, they don't last very long, do they?

A typical Formula 1 steering wheel costs around $40,000.
Probably cheaper to let someone steal your car.

The racing car steering wheel slips on to a spline, the steering wheel center when lowered engages the the male & locks into place like your seat belt & cannot slip off due to the lock mechanism, the steering wheel unlocks via the ring gear incorporated into the steering wheel itself, these could be designed with weight in mind for each individual car the same as the car's key, Any brainy people out there?
Sounds like a proposal for Dragons' Den, TWR!

It can be achieved Boxtops, regards the cost, it would not cost the earth, the centre of the steering wheel as of now is splined obviously would have to be modified as the Steering wheels now have all sort of devises fitted to them. Have you any money? we will try the design lol
Not worky.
I know a lad who drove a car 10 miles to the scrapyard with no steering wheel.
Mole grips.
lol albags, that is brilliant!
Another mate was following .. he apparently overtook too! : )
I used to have a fiesta that had no bolt on the steering wheel and also tracked nice and straight, passengers don't complain about your driving any more after pulling the steering wheel off, passing it across to them and saying "you drive then"
making individually 'coded' steering wheels would be prohibitively expensive?
I was driving a Ford Zodiac many years ago and as I went round a corner my steering wheel cam off in my hand, drove right into a wall. A bit shaken but no injuries, my hot date was not impressed! :-(
It works here :-)
