Diesel belingo, 4500 miles. Dealer charged £265 for 25,000 service. Charged for oil change +oil. Oil is quite black, looks old, suspect not changed, advice really appreciated. I have just acquired the car, service 9th September.
Yes, I have worked on oil testing for Diesel engines the oil goes black very quickly. That is part of the ''job'' of oil in a diesel it holds the inevitable combustion products, 'soot' basically, insuspension so that they do not clog up the engine. It would be more worrying if the oil was clean after a 1,000 miles or so as that would indicate that the soot was not...
depends how far its been run since the oil change, the oil in a diesel can get black very quickly (unless its had an engine flush)
The other option is to get someone to look at the sump/drain plug to see if its been disturbed, is this a cartridge or a spin on filter ? again if it has been changed there should be some sign of it being cleaned as the oil is so black and messy, theres always a bit of oil spilt.
Thank you all for taking the time to answer.Re the filter, or drain plug, I am unable to see under the car, and as you kindly informed me that the oil should go black quickly, I will give the benifit off the doubt to the dealership.
thank you again.
Some of the 'Fastfit' type places just suck the oil out of distick (lazy sods) so a lot of the crap gets left in sump.
This dirties new oil more quickly.
