need to change car need a good economical deisel car

we currently have a 2 ltre hdi deisel citroen picasso xzara, its ok and a decent sized car , though price of fuel and insurance is key, what is a nice smaller car to run, we want a deisel which will be easy on insurance and not expensive for parts etc, was thinking of a vw golf sdi ? we had a 1900cc sdi before the picasso but picasso seems to be heavier on fuel plus its more expensive to insure. i once had a citroen saxo deisel, nice little car , nice looking but interior wasnt good and we have 2.1/2 year old baby now and we need more room than a 2 door citroen saxo.

did you get your licence sorted?. youll need a smaller car than a 2lt if you want to drop the insurance and a saxo may not do as its still classed as a hot hatch, golf may be too. Your driving history is going to play a big part on what you can afford to run, not just diesel prices.

Skoda Octavia - if you can get to one before the taxi drivers (which says it all for value and reliability!)
My 2.0TDi estate goes like the wind but delivers 60mpg on a run and never less than 45 around town.
I think you will find the comfort, fittings and build quality a big step up from what you are used to also!

i think GBs 5 year ban for DD may mean that £210 insurance is highly unlikely. hence im suggesting that smaller engined cars and low insurance bracket may be better

As redcrx says, insurance quotes may be the deciding factor here as a higher insurance group will outweigh any mpg savings.

Also, I'd take a fair amount of a certain condiment with some mpg claims (official figures and owners figures).

yea redcrx ive done some research on net, looks like a pergeot 206 1.6cc group 4 insurance and £30 road tax is something that i am going to have to consider. thanks

My mileage figures are taken from my on board computer which I set to show average consumption. It is pretty accurate when it comes to fill up time!

We have a Citroen C3 picasso 1.6 diesel (new Mar. this year) with which we are averaging 65 mpg (per onboard computer) and with £30 excise duty next year we can recommend it.
