Not necessarily.

You often get this sound when a car has been unused for a while, especially if it is garaged in the open. It is caused by a thin layer of rust forming on the discs being scoured off by the pads. Drive it around the block a few times, applying the brakes every now and again and it should soon disappear. If it doesn't, then someone to do a brake check for you.

Good luck.

okay many thanks
Yes, I agree. I would hvave said the same. It is especially noticable if all wheels are disc brakes.
Leading on from the same question......I notice some cars have brake discs that turn rusty virtually overnight but others can stand for a week or so before the disc looses it's polished finish. Thoughts/comments on that, anyone?
Makes you wonder why they don't use stainless steel for the discs.

Hang on, forget I said that until I get back from the patent office.

Are they recording any Dragon's Dens soon?
Stainless can be dodgy in the wet....remember the early days of stainless steel discs on imported motorcycles?
