We are taking our recently purchased X reg. Peugeot 406 to France shortly, please can anyone tell me if there is a switch on the headlights to change the beam over for driving in France or do we still have to put orange stickers on the lights?

They don't use orange stickers anymore.

You'll have to fit black headlight deflectors to stop you dazzling cars coming in the opposite direction.  There is no switch to change the beam since the beam design is built into the actual glass.
