Greasy Windscreen

Can anyone advise me how to clear a greasy windscreen, please. I've tried neat washing up liquid, white spirit and several other things with no luck. It's got so I can't see out very well, especially at night when it's raining.

Please help with any tips.

Wipe your screen with some vinegar then empty your washer bottle and fill it with screenwash

Vinegar was one of the other things I tried with no luck :-(

Sometimes wiper blades need changing. Mine last approx 18 months. The difference is amazing and they don't cost too much.

Have you cleaned your glasses? :)

If it's mainly a problem when it's raining have you considered new wipers?

I've never had any problems using household window cleaning products, i.e. Windolene etc.

You need to clean the inside of your windscreen aswell !

You may find this unusual, get a blade, put some fairy liquid in water and put onto your screen, use the blade to clear off, wipe the screen with paper, I car valet in my spare time.

Dilute household ammonia might do it but don't get it on the paintwork

or sugar soap solution

Thank you to the people that have given me sensible answers. When I ask a serious question I don't expect sarcastic answers.

Unfrtunately the wipers are about £30 each for my car, I'm not sure if I can put cheap ones on it.

I think it's the household stuff that has caused the problem.

Having tried many different things over the years the only thing that I can recommend 100 per cent is jewellers rouge, it's a powder that jewellers use to get scratches out of jewellery its also used to get small scratches on windows out, sparingly use on a damp cloth and gently clean, do not press too hard, and ensure the cloth is allways damp, you can see the grease come off as you use, after cleaning just buff up window with a dry cloth.it can be purchased on e bay at a reasonable price. It works excellent I use it about once evert two months as I hate greasy windows in my car.

white spirit actually has a certain amount of oil in it, meths is the way to go...

neat meths with newspaper is the old fashioned way for cleaning glass , then just make sure clean the blades with meths.

Clean your wiper blades as well as you clean the window as they will have a build up of oily greasy muck on them which they will then re-spread over the windscreen next time you use them.

If you refuse to change your wiper blades due to cost, then I suspect that is where your problem lies.

I get cheap ones from Wilko at less than £2 a blade.

Not surprisingly, at that price they don't last long, but hey - I just buy more.

i used to sell stick on interior mirror pads for cars and they only work if the screen is 100% clean, if white spirit is used the mirror drops off again within days.
