Tons of grey/white smoke coming from exhaust .

Not good obviously - but what is the likely cause / problem - any ideas ?

Oh lordy - difinitely bad .

It's a petrol engine
Looks like water getting in
Probably is the head gasket then.
has the coolant level dropped - yes =probably head gasket
Did you overfill the oil when you topped up ? That can cause a temporary problem.
could be a blown turbo!
Have you run the engine HOT Bazil? If so, as stated.
Grey or white smoke can be due to excessive fuel. Not usually "tons" of it though.

If the engine has a carburettor the choke could be stuck on.
