Left turn indicator occasionally 'blinks' at roughly twice normal speed. Corrects itself after a while. Right-hand one is fine. Is this something I can fix myself? Is this a common problem? TIA.

Have you checked both front and back indicator lights are working?
When the indicators flash at a fast rate, it is normally as a result of the circuit drawing less current than normal – normally due to a faulty bulb. Since this appears to be an intermittent problem, it would suggest that you have a poor connection somewhere within the left turn indicator circuit.

See ummmm’s post above.
You don't say which indicater, front or rear or both.

You probably have a bulb that is loose or not connecting properly.

If the front one flashes illegaly fast then the bulb on the same side at rear is loose or has a bad connection.

Thanks for the answers - I'll check when OH returns from wherever she's gone
This happened on my Corsa. I had an auto electrician fix it, but I can't remember what he fixed. It's a small box thing. If you ring an auto electrician and say what's happening he'll know exactly what needs doing. It cost me hardly anything - not a big job.
In my experience of having the same thing happen on many vehicles I agree with Toureman's answer.
Loose bulb or your relay needs changing. This controls the indicator making it click. Not always easy to find. Put indicator on lift hood and listen. Easy to change if you can get to it.
Not sure with all these new fangled electronic boxes but in the good old days if one bulb was blinking twice as fast as usual and the other was usually not flashing at all it meant an earthing problem on the second light
This happens occasionally on my Ka as well... It's the front right indicator on mine though. I got the garage to check it and they said it could be caused by the moisture that's in the headlamp. Couldn't afford to get it fixed so I just left it..
