Went to the Trafford Centre near Manchester yesterday - all I can say is, what recession might we be in? It was just any old Monday and the shoppers were out in force, and in the cafes, and in the cinema.
Maybe these are the people who should be running the economy.

Brighton and the south coast towns here are still buzzing with shoppers and visitors, albeit that we do get tourists down hunting for a great deal, but yes, Mosaic, the cinema's and cafe's are doing a great trade at the moment too.

Takes your mind off the downside of everyday life...and why not?.... and i'm for anything thats happy and funky. :0)

and the free parking at the Trafford Centre must be a bonus....and the security.
Makes you think.
They might have been looking but not buying Mosaic, But I agree with you, there doesn't seem to be any less spending as far as I can see. But I wonder what will happen when the electricity bills, gas bills, water bills, and most of all credit card bills come in and I fancy if you look at the bankruptcy lists you will find them a lot longer than last year. Friends of mine reckon they are still reeling from what they spent at Christmas and that's six months ago. It may be going on underneath while people are still doing their best to enjoy themselves.
Certainly does, Mosaic and a very Good Sunny Morning to you by the way :0) x

Free parking in Brighton?.....if only eh? lol
\\\\\Maybe these are the people who should be running the economy.\\\\

OR it may be these people who have contributed to ruining the economy.

I bet the credit cards were used to the full.
Why Sqad?
We have a MacArthur Glen outlet not far from us, when you go there there are plenty of people walking round and in the eating area, but you don't have to queue for any of the tills in the shops, people just don't seem to be spending there.
ummmm......at one time, one would save up for what one wanted....savings stamps, Christmas clubs and then after saving that amount, the purchase was made.

In the last decade, it become completely opposite, one bought the article on credit and paid for it later.......times were good, banks and credit companies would be happy to lend you money, often money you knew that you would have a problem in repaying. Then the crunch came, negative equity, unemployment and with the help of the bankers and imprudent public.
We don't have credit cards so I presume there are loads of people like us.
I don't use them, sqad.
I can assure you the recession is alive and kicking, in the construction industry at least. :(
It's alive and kicking in Industry aswell. :-(
So, you work in industry tony .... ?
Oh gawd.
You'll be accidentally giving your age away next (lol) ....
You madam are like the Spanish inquisition. ^^^^^
I don't use credit cards either, never have done. If I can't afford it I don't
have it.
I'm not short of anything, holidays abroad, paid for before I go. When I
was working I worked all the hours there was, sometimes not a day off for
weeks.

We use credit cards for buying online - not for paying on the drip as such. They get cleared every month. So we use credit cards, but not for getting in debt.

I wonder if people aren't going abroad on holiday, and spending their money on treats at places like the Trafford Centre?

Personally I can't stand the place, it gives me a migraine every time I go there.

Can we have a bit less flirting on this thread?
Tony, chaptaz, I'm looking at you two especially.....
I use my credit cards but always repay in full before I get charged anything so doesn't apply to me either Squad.
