How do I find out when to replace the Cam belt on a Renault Megane Expression VVT 110 - 09 plate

Nothing in the handbook

Did you buy it new? I don't have a Renault but on my last car the garage that sold me my car new wrote to me after 4 years saying it was due

You mechanic should be able to give you advice. Usually so many thousand ks. You don't wait for it to wear out or break.

sorry to state the obvious, tried ringing a Renault dealer ?

desktop, that mechanics comment is total garbage...manufacturers specify a time and/or mileage which falls within a service schedule.You cant just drive around until it goes bang !! (a snapped belt can destroy an engine)

The info is usually in the service schedule book - the one that gets stamped when a service is done.

I was told 30k miles (Astra) Mine snapped while I was driving and caused 3.5k of damage.

Because my car had only done 18k miles Vauxhall paid for a sparkly new engine...

But....it was only the fact that my cousin worked for Vauxhall that I was told this fact!! They would have let me pay, otherwise.

In the handbook it makes reference to another book , which I havent got - which I presume contains that sort of info .

As chas says - i'll speak to a local dealership .

ummm - that's interesting - was the car out of warrantly , but they replaced the engine , because 30k was the recomendation by Vauxhall ?

For the price of getting the job done Bazile, the belt could cost you Hundreds if not done, 60.000 would be soon enough.

Yes, Out of warranty, I don't drive many miles. The car was about 3 or 4 years old at the time. They probably assumed the car had done over the mileage.

It's actually done 10440 miles and counting .
I assume therefore that from a mileage aspect , that the mileage alone does not require it to have a Cam Belt change .

However , i think i seem to recall reading somewhere that it is either mileage OR a particuklar time period from new , whichever comes first .
This car is on a 09 plate , which is why i was asking the question .

I'd get it changed if it's done that many miles on one belt. Thing you're starting to chance your luck a bit with it.

But yes, my car says something like 60,000 miles or 4 years, whichever comes first.

My car was an N reg so this is quite a while ago. Vauxhall guaranteed the cam belt for 30k miles. Renault might not do the same.

I think for your car the intervals are every 5 years or every 7000 miles whichever comes first but check up on the above link.

Best to get it earlier than stated though and get the water pump done at the same time.

Time is critical as well although with such a low mileage it may well be fine but it really isnt worth the risk also low mileage can consist of many short journeys which can put more strain on the belt
Many modern belts are 80,000+
