Car stereo broken/ fused

A metal key got into my cigarette lighter bit of my car..... There was a blue light and now my stereo is broken!

Doh! Is it fused? Can i get that fixed? Xx

Change the fuse. if you mention what car it is then somebody will tell you where to find the fuse.

The stereo will have an internal fuse, separate from the fuses in your car, so see if it's blown or not.
It might be accessible without having to undo any screws etc, it'll prob be at the back of the unit
You may have also blown a fuse in your car, so check them as well.

Don't really see how shorting out the cigarette lighter could blow the internal fuse in the radio. it would blow the car fuse for that circuit though and if the radio is run from the same fuse then obviously the radio would no longer work until that fuse is replaced.

Had the lighter bit out charging phone usually but charger was away and someone tried to put keys & money in the bit next to the lighter and BOOM!!

Everythingelse is fine just the radio wont turn on at all xxx

the fuse box is under the carpet under the drivers feet, it's fuse number 12 and it's a 30amp fuse.

you should find your glove compartment light isn't working too.

I expect the radio has failed because it's wired through the same fuse as the cigarette lighter. Should be a simple fuse replacement task. Check the vehicle handbook for location and rating of fuse.
