Renault Ignition Card

I have a Renault Megane and the electronic ignition card is starting to 'go' i.e. it keeps saying CARD NOT DETECTED and I have to reinsert it many times before it 'takes'. I have been told this will only worsen until it won't start at all. I made enquiries at the local Renault dealer to discover a new ignition card will cost £250 and take 7-10 days to come through! Is there a cheaper and/or easier alternative to this? (Legal, obviously.)

P.S. I've tried replacing the lithium battery in it and it's made no difference at all.
hubby had the same issue with his one and it was dust in the slot - he vacuumed it and it improved it no end!
It is very easy to insert the coin battery in the wrong polarity – I know, I have done it myself. But even in this configuration, when inserted into the key-slot, the vehicle will recognize the card – although you cannot remotely lock/unlock the doors.

If you have to buy a replacement – shop around, my local Renault dealer will supply a replacement for around £150.
Have had excellent dealings with :www.keyrepair.co.uk assuming you have spare to get by with!
