Can speed cameras record as you travel towards them?

I thought that was what they did.
The old "Gatso" style ones only photograph vehicles which have passed them:

The newer "Truvelo" type record your speed and photograph you as you approach them:

The mobile speed cameras usually record your speed as you travel towards them, but work just as well away from you.
Out of interest, how would a Truvelo camera catch a speeding motorcyclist, with only a numberplate on the rear?
It wouldn't ... mwahahaha
