I recently bought 2005 galaxy when I start off I put it in drive to pull away but it seems reluctant to change into higher gear. After about 0.5 miles it goes into drive and drives normally.Has anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong?.Thanks.

Some automatics are programmed to hold lower gears longer on a cold engine to improve warm-up time and reduce emissions.

Might be low on Transmission fluid!
My old Vauxhall Omega used to do the same thing. It's as bhg481 says. To warm up more quickly and reduce emissions.
