OK, I hold my hands up - it's a new car and I'm going overboard at the moment in my desire to keep it spotless.
Anyway, just took it for a local hand-wash, mostly because after a long trip yesterday the front of the car and the windscreen were covered with insect remnants. The bodywork is now spotless... but there's still enough splatterage on the windscreen for me to be mildly disappointed.
I've got vinegar-type glass cleaner at home but, despite what it says on the tin (plastic bottle), it can be a tad smeary.
Can anyone recommend a product that's very effective at removing this stubborn wildlife residue?

Hot water and soda crystals will do the trick.
Try this. I use it and it's good stuff. You can get it from Halfords (among others):

It's so good bb used it twice! ^
Wouldn't put you off these products, but a packet of soda crystals will cost you £1 and last for months and months.
I took my car to the handwash while I was in the Co-op - when I came out, a seagull had poo-d on it :-(
One drop of washing up liquid in about 1\2 to 3\4 of a pint of warm water and a green 'scratchy' type cleaner (not one on a foam pad) is all I ever use.
Tilly2, the real reason/excuse for my double post was old age and decrepitude. As I pressed Submit on my first answer, I looked out of the window. Result, when I looked back at the screen, I didn't really see my reply. (No, I don't know why, I just didn't.) So I sent it again. Please don't let them take me away!
:-), bb.

Thanks everyone.
Quite spoilt for choice! My brother used to use Autoglym for lots of car cleaning jobs and swore by them, so I'll start with their product and see how it goes. The most expensive of those you've pointed me to is about £6.50, and for my typical mileage it'll last a long time, so the cost isn't too much of an issue.
Stanley Blade & soap & water. ( Car Valeter)
