Is it reasonable for a dealer to sell a car with only one key - i.e. no spare ?

ok - so the immoboliser is what's forcing you to have a fob with a transponder/ chip .

In my case the only thing i can do if i loose a key for the focus in the future is to get a fob with transponder / chip and then programme it - yes ?
Always used to carry some packing tape inside the brim of my cap and a piece of plastic video case cut a certain way for 'doing' house doors.
Yes Bazile.
Are you buying from Evans Halshaw?

If so I would suggest that they wouldn't risk losing a sale for the sake of supplying a second key.

If you are buying from some oik in a second hand car lot then you run the risk of him turning up t your address and using the spare key he has retained to take the car back......
That's what they used to do.

Final few things

Are there companies ( apart from main dealers ) that provide this service and would you recomend going down that route - what are the pros and cons ?

In the service book i'm looking at it gives a ' vehicle key number ' - do you know what that is ?

I'm still not sure what methyl means by ' immergency key ' in his earlier post
An auto electrician should be able to program a new key for you, Bazile.
Question Author
Would he / she source the fob and transponder or would i have to do that myself ?
You could either ask him to source one for you or you could get one yourself, Bazile.

For what it's worth, I've always refused to purchase a car without the complete original key/fob set, as it means someone else will have them which could give them access to the vehicle.
